Dr. Castañeda joined Community Health Alliance in May of 2020, and specializes in outpatient pediatrics, specifically with newborn to 21-year-olds.

“The reason I love my job is that I’m able to see children grow and develop through all stages of their life, and be able to work closely with the whole family – not just one person but the community around them.”

Dr. Castañeda is the first CHA medical employee to have a joint appointment with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Dr. Castañeda joins the faculty educational institution and will work closely with community members who might not otherwise have access to healthcare. She is also a part of the School of Medicine’s Admissions Executive Committee.

She will also help medical students with aspects of their curriculum, leading courses and seminars, simulation sessions and bringing medical students to the CHA health centers to help increase pediatric exposure.

“I’m excited to join such a renowned institution with research access and physicians to learn from. I’m hoping I can help medical students become more excited about being a pediatrician in Nevada, as well as develop an interest in community medicine, specifically with kids.”

In her previous job as a pediatric hospitalist with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, an affiliate of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. Castañeda helped to bridge the gap between the largest children’s hospital in the area with a smaller community hospital called AMITA Hinsdale Hospital and its pediatric unit.

Personal Interests

Outside of work. Dr. Castañeda can be found spending time with her toddler daughter and husband. As a recent transplant to Reno Tahoe, she is looking forward to exploring the area through its outdoor recreation as well as its bustling food scene. She is fluent in Spanish, enjoys salsa dancing, cooking and is excited to get to know more families in the area.

“Even if it slows me down, it is important for me that my patients feel heard and understood.”
