Wondering what the Healthy Prescription Food Pantry is?
Community Health Alliance Healthy Prescription Food Pantry Community is a food pantry located onsite at our main Health Facility. Patients are written food prescriptions by their provider so that they are able to access to healthy food to help manage chronic medical conditions such as diabetes or hypertension, as a form of preventative services, or to improve food security. Pediatricians frequently write prescriptions for their minor patients so that they and their family can access fresh healthy foods. The Pantry stocks fresh fruits and vegetable, leans meats, frozen fruits and vegetable, and non-perishables emphasis whole grains, foods with no added salt or sugar, high protein and fiber foods such as canned and dried beans, split peas, lentils, canned fruit, whole grain rice and pasta. Pantry users are able to pick up food once per week and are given recipes, highlight cards detailing less commonly encountered foods such as bok choy, swiss chard, and watermelon radishes. The Health Prescription Food Pantry partners with local farmers to provider local produce when possible.
