Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

We have temporarily suspended physical services at the following locations due to COVID-19:

– Ronald McDonald Care Mobile
– Wells Ave. Health Center
If you receive WIC services at these locations or wish to enroll in the program, we encourage you to call (775) 870-4343. We are conducting any scheduled WIC appointments over the phone so our clients can continue to practice social distancing. Eligibility information can be faxed to (775) 870-4643.
We are offering physical and telephonic appointments at the following locations:
– Sun Valley
– Sparks Health Center
– Nell J. Redfield Health Center, Neil Road
Our Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program provide nutrition education, breastfeeding support services, supplemental nutritious foods and referrals to health and social services. Our WIC participants range from working to non-working families, and we do not limit eligibility on the basis of citizenship or immigration status.
We are committed to protecting all patient information. We are bound by federal regulations to maintain the confidentiality of participant data and personal information. This means we do not inquire or collect information about one’s immigration status, nor do we share information about immigration or citizenship status with immigration authorities. Here Are the WIC Services We Provide:
Lactation Counseling
Lactation consults include assessment of breastfeeding, assistance with latching, providing breast pumps or breastfeeding aids as needed, developing a plan to help the mom reach her breastfeeding goals while also giving her confidence and empowerment.
Peer Breastfeeding Support
Provides mother to mother breastfeeding support and education during pregnancy and after birth.
Nutrition
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children provides supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutritional education to low-income pregnant and postpartum women as well as infants and children up to age five who are at nutritional risk.
Our nutrition center provides the following foods:
- Fruits and vegetables
- Milk
- Cheese
- Infant formula
- Baby food
- Fish
- Whole grains, tortillas
- Iron-fortified cereals
- Beans
- Peanut butter
- Eggs
- Vegetable and fruit juice
- Tofu
- Soy milk
- Enhanced food package for breastfeeding moms
Additional WIC Services
Referrals for low-cost car seats, Farmer’s Market coupons, and help finding a physician or dentist.
